Mailtender for Agents

A send gate between your agent and your customers

Your agent keeps its model, its prompt and its judgement. Mailtender gives it a safe way to answer email — and gives you the controls that decide what it may send.

The send gate

Five layers, in the order they run

Every reply your agent proposes passes each layer before Mailtender delivers it. Nothing skips the gate, including retries.

  1. 01

    Hard rules

Checks no setting can turn off.

    • Reply only inside an existing thread.
    • Only to addresses already on inbound mail in that thread.
    • They run before the mode and your policy rules, in every mode.
  2. 02

    Modes

Shadow, review or autonomous, set per agent.

    • Shadow records the reply and never sends it.
    • Review holds every reply for a person.
    • Autonomous sends within your rules.
  3. 03

    Policy rules

    Ordered, deterministic rules you write.

    • Match labels, patterns, sender domains and counts.
    • Hold, allow or block the reply.
    • The rule that decided is named in the decision snapshot.
  4. 04

    Approval with edit

A person decides on held replies.

    • Approve, edit or reject from the dashboard, webmail or the phone.
    • Edits are kept next to what the agent proposed.
    • A held reply that nobody approves expires instead of going out late.
  5. 05

    Kill switches

    One action stops sending.

    • For one agent, or for every agent in your organisation.
    • New replies stop leaving at once; your people's own mail keeps flowing.
    • Who pressed it, and when, is in the audit trail.
Reply-only credentials

Your agent can answer. It can't start anything.

An agent credential is scoped to the shared mailboxes you grant it, and to replies inside threads that already exist. It can never pick a new recipient — no matter what the model decides or what a sender asks for.

An agent can

  • Read threads in mailboxes it was granted
  • Reply inside an existing thread
  • Follow its replies through events and webhooks

An agent can't

  • Start a new thread
  • Add or change recipients
  • Open anyone's personal mailbox
  • Change its own mode or rules
Untrusted envelope

Sender content arrives as data, never as instructions

Every subject, body, header and attachment name reaches your agent inside an untrusted envelope. Your prompt can tell the model exactly where the customer's words begin and end.

And if an instruction slips through anyway, the reply it produces still has to pass the hard rules, your policy rules and — when you choose — a person.

The plumbing

The edge cases of email, handled once

Idempotent replies

Send the same idempotency key twice and you get the same reply back — never a second email after a timeout.

Events and webhooks

Signed webhooks for every reply state — held, approved, edited, rejected, delivered, bounced — so your agent knows what happened.

Threads, done properly

Replies carry the right headers to stay in the customer's thread, from your domain, with DKIM and SPF aligned.

Developer surface

Use the interface your agent already speaks

Decision snapshot

Evidence, not logs

For every reply, Mailtender keeps what the agent saw, what it proposed, which rule decided, what a person changed and what was delivered. When someone asks "what happened?", you have the answer.

How audit works

Put your agent on email, with a person still in charge

Create a free account, connect a domain or start with forwarding, and hold your agent's first reply for review.
